Fireworks in the Nation's Capital

Though often crowded and humid on the Fourth, there is something special about seeing the fireworks over the Lincoln Memorial. We got on the hill next to the Washington Monument and enjoyed the show!

Fireworks!

Fourth of July

Tio Derek and Flat Stanley enjoy the beautiful Union Station in Washington, DC. I used to commute from Baltimore through this station for 4 years.

Tio Derek and Flat Stanley admire the ceiling of this grand train station.

Old Man Cactus

Flat Stanley hangs out with people his own size.

Flat Stanley Was a Little Reckless!

Flat Stanley became a little disobedient in the Silver Garden!

Stamp Hunt

There is a small scavenger hunt in the conservatory. You have to find stations around the conservatory that have stamps that you can place in a book. Flat Stanley thought it would be great to fill one out for my nephew. After getting a little help from Flat Stanley, mom was able to take care of the stamps on her own.

Conservatory Flowers

Conservatory entrance and flowers. Palm Room. Flat Stanley really liked the orchids. Flat Stanley pretends he is Jack & The Beanstalk while climbing these sweet pea vines. Cascade Garden.

Longwood Gardens

On Stanley's last day we took him to the historic Longwood Gardens. It is a former estate of the DuPont family in Pennsylvania. Here are several pictures from the garden. Main Fountain Garden. The recently renovated Conservatory.

Crabby!

Hometown Girl! A great store of Baltimore related items and even an old fashioned ice cream shop in the back! I've been called a crab head before but this is a little ridiculous!
Meanwhile, Derek battles a crab claw we found in the store.

Shoes & Chocolate

Flat Stanley and Mom agreed that fine chocolates and fine shoes were a great combination! Ma Petite Shoe, in Hampden, Hon!

Flat Stanley Squared

It's like looking in a mirror! Our friends, Brian and Nicole received a Flat Stanley too. So we had Flat Stanley2 at brunch.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday brunch at the Golden West Cafe in Hampden. Great food but service can be spectacular or absolutely horrible. Gotta take what you can for the green chilies! Monday night's for half price burger night is also a big hit with the locals.

Drain Spout

Flat Stanley had to check out this creepy drain spout on one of the bridges around the tidal basin. We kept ahold of him to make sure he would be ok.

Washington Monment

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

While walking around the Tidal Basin we stopped through the FDR Memorial. A beautifully designed memorial. Tio Pepe and Flat Stanley listen to FDR.
